Activities

The Commission on Disabilities' objective is to be the eyes, ears, voice, and conscience in insuring equal access to persons with disabilities of Santa Cruz County. We will advise the Board of Supervisors and serve persons with disabilities in our community in the following ways:

  • Provide an accessible, inclusive, and appropriate place for persons with disabilities to express community concerns.
  • Identify and address visible and invisible barriers preventing children and adults with disabilities from exercising their rights to live a full and productive life
  • Educate and promote awareness on disability issues and rights
  • Provide referrals and initiate collaborations, bringing together needs and resources to inspire community action
  • Take an active role in advancing Local, State, and Federal Legislation that insures and maintains equity and access for all people with disabilities.


2017 KUDOS AWARDS INFORMATION AND WINNERS

The KUDOS Awards honors and recognizes local businesses, organizations and individuals that have gone above and beyond to provide access and/or services for persons with disabilities. This year the KUDOS Awards were held on Saturday, October 21st at the Santa Cruz Police Department Community Room.

 

The Master of Ceremonies for this year’s awards was Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), California Senate Majority Leader. The following individuals and groups were recognized as 2017 KUDOS Awards recipients:

 

Day Worker Center Volunteers
Mario Garcia (Cabrillo College)

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) at Cabrillo College

Lyn Glick (Adaptive PE Teacher)

Santa Cruz Metro Bus Drivers

Steve Miller (Shared Adventures)

 

A special Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Margaret Keith, Student Disability Resources Manager at the California State University Monterey Bay for her advocacy, dedication and leadership in the Disabilities Rights Movement.

 

These KUDOS recipients have improved access and enhanced opportunities for individuals to participate, engage and contribute meaningfully within our community for the betterment and enrichment of all. Santa Cruz County thanks them for making a difference!
